Houston, we have a problem.
By now, many Idahoans have heard about the sexually explicit materials that are available in public schools and community libraries.
But one nagging question remained—just how widespread is the problem, really?
To find out, we scoured dozens of school and public library catalogues, looking for books that can be safely considered obscene for children and teenagers.
Quite frankly, even we were shocked by the results. Our investigation revealed nearly thirty cities with either a public school and/or public library where pornographic books can be accessed by children. You can see the full list in the graphic below:
Clearly this isn’t a localized issue. We’re not talking about a few rogue teachers or librarians. How long will we let schools and libraries use our tax dollars to provide books that sexualize our children?
It’s time for a statewide policy fix. Idaho Family Policy Center is leading the charge with our Children’s School and Library Protection Act, which would stop public schools and community libraries from distributing pornographic books to minor children.
Thankfully, Rep. Jaron Crane (R-Nampa) and Sen. Cindy Carlson (R-Riggins) have agreed to sponsor this crucial legislation, proving they’re willing to take the heat from the media and radical leftists.
We’re expecting the House Education Committee to consider the Children’s School and Library Protection Act in a public hearing sometime soon. Concerned parents and community members who would like to testify should contact our volunteer coordinator, Kelly Cope, at [email protected].

Lastly, bill sponsor Rep. Jaron Crane joined us on our “Idaho Family Report” podcast this morning to explain why he’s so passionate about this legislation. You can listen on Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Spotify, or Anchor.

Amazing you won’t even identify the books you’re using to target libraries with your Christofascism. You just make a blanket statement as if it’s fact when it is nothing more than an opinion. You nuts should be ashamed of yourselves.
“we scoured dozens of school and public library catalogues, looking for books that can be safely considered obscene for children and teenagers.”
Hi, is there a list of books that contain inappropriate material that parents can view?
Unfortunately this list is incomplete. If a school has VALNet, they have access to the worst books I’ve seen, yet. The schools participating in VALNet that aren’t on that list are: Clearwater Valley, Culdesac, Grangeville, Kamiah, Orofino, & Cottonwood (Prarie). (Also, our school in Riggins has pornographic/ obscene material in it, as well. We do not have VALNet but I’m sure we have other online sources connected with our school that we haven’t figured out yet.)
Idaho Public Libraries participating in VALNet and not listed on your list are: Bovill, Craigmont, Genesee, Julietta, Kooskia, Peck, Potlatch, Troy, and Winchester.
So far I haven’t found any age checks on the VALNet system. Potentially a child could get on their school website, access VALNet, then have the book delivered to any PUBLIC library and pick it up. Unless there are laws put into place to stop this (or parental advisory ratings) then potentially a child can ABSOLUTELY access porn through these school sites.
Some of the worst of the worst books in VALNet (and this is by no means a complete list):
This Book is Gay by Juno Dawson
Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe
Lawn Boy by Johnathan Evison
It’s Perfectly Normal by Robie H. Harris
Let’s Talk About It: A Teen’s Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human by Erika Moen (THIS ONE IS PENGUIN RANDOM HOUSE)
Log onto VALNet to search this! https://valnet.overdrive.com/
If anyone needs proof that these are pornographic, type the title and author + “banned pages” into your address bar and click “images” at the top of your search page. You will find descriptions with pictures on how to stimulate yourself, any kind of sex you can imagine explained, incest and pedophilia in detail and consensual, etc!!! These books should not be available to adults, let alone our children!!!! These materials have the potential to ruin a childhood. People need to know it’s available in our schools!! We need to stop saying, “Well, at least we don’t have it here.”
I think if a person is willing to defend the smut to chilren, that person is a threat and predator.. Why are people fighting this? God forgive them..
