ALERT: Tell Local Businesses (Again!) to Stop Supporting Boise Pride

This weekend is the annual Boise Pride Festival—and just like in years past, organizers are intent on sexualizing children.

Let me start with the good news: Because Idahoans like you have voiced your concerns about the sexual overtones of this event over the last several years, Boise Pride saw over a 40% drop in corporate sponsorship funding from last year.

But here’s the bad news: Despite bleeding corporate sponsors, Boise Pride festival keeps limping along—promising even more sexually charged and deeply disturbing performances, many of which are targeted at minor children.

Now we need your voice to be heard again! National retailers, like Albertsons and Target, as well as local businesses, like the Boise Co-Op Market and Red Bench Pizza, are actively sponsoring the Boise Pride Festival (a complete list of sponsors is available here).

Here are a few of the “artists” who will be featured at the festival, which is slated to take place at Ann Morrison Park:

  • Femme Von Follies, a queer theatrical company which brags that its productions include burlesque, pole dancing, and dancing demons—and at Boise Pride, the Femme Van Follies will be performing during the mid-afternoon programming for all ages;
  • Starbelly Dancers, a local dance company featuring provocative dancers in revealing costumes and women’s lingerie—which Boise Pride describes as “family friendly”;
  • Plane Jane, a male drag performer who dresses like an adult movie star and which festival promoters describe as “undeniably extremely hot, and very sexy”;
  • Buck D’Licious, a drag king and stripper pole dancer who will often uses demonic imagery and will “be bringing dark fantasy vibes” to the event;
  • And a two-part “Hometown Drag Spectacular” taking place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons that will include twenty other drag performers

Boise Pride has indicated that this programming is appropriate for children, even going so far as distinguishing it from other evening events that are limited specifically for adults.

But in what world is stripper pole dancing, demonic burlesque, and lesbian witch pop appropriate for children? The answer is that it isn’t.

We’ve included images from some of these scheduled performers below. Please use discretion before viewing—it’s incredibly disturbing.

You’ve proven before that some Boise Pride sponsors are willing to change course depending on the feedback they receive from their customers and community members.

Will you take one minute to let these companies know that their support for these kinds of sexualized and disturbing performances in front of children is completely unacceptable? Send your message now insisting that these companies withdraw their financial support from Boise Pride!

Business and community leaders need to know that Idahoans don’t want children to be exploited in this way. Let them hear you loud and clear—send your message now!

P.S. Idaho Family Policy Center is still fighting on the frontlines to end sexually explicit performances in front of children. There’s still time for you to sign our petition and let your legislators know that you support this legislation.
