FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2025
BOISE, IDAHO – Idaho Family Policy Center, a pro-family Christian ministry, celebrates the introduction of our indecent sexual exhibitions bill by the Idaho House State Affairs Committee. The committee will soon consider the bill in a public hearing.
The bill which – was drafted by Idaho Family Policy Center and is sponsored by Sen. Ben Toews (R-Coeur d’Alene) and Rep. Ted Hill (R-Eagle) – would create a duty of care for hosts, organizers, and performers of indecent sexual exhibitions to take reasonable steps to restrict the access of minors.
The legislation uses the same indecency standard that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) uses to determine whether content is appropriate for daytime television.
The legislation was prompted by drag shows held last year in public parks in both Coeur d’Alene and Boise. Shortly after those two events, more than 8,000 Idaho voters signed a petition distributed by Idaho Family Policy Center calling on state legislators to address the issue.
According to statewide public opinion polling, more than 70% of likely Idaho voters support banning drag shows and other sexual exhibitions in public places where children are present.
A statement from Blaine Conzatti, President of Idaho Family Policy Center:
Indecent sexual exhibitions, like drag shows and burlesque, are never appropriate in public places or other areas where children might be present.
We don’t let children patronize strip clubs, and we don’t allow them to hang around adult movie stores. So why do we allow sexualized drag exhibitions in places like public parks and community libraries?
It’s time to make sure children are protected by taking care of this issue once and for all. Idaho Family Policy Center calls on the legislature to pass this important legislation.
