NEWS ROUNDUP: Bathroom bill update 🚻 and push to keep abortion pill out of Costco 💊

1. 9th Circuit panel hears oral arguments in Idaho school bathroom bill case 🚻

Last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit heard oral arguments on our school bathroom law (Senate Bill 1100), which was drafted and championed by Idaho Family Policy Center.

Peter Renn, the attorney who argued the case on behalf of the LGBT advocacy group Lambda Legal, made several attempts to discredit the law.

Stretching credulity, Renn claimed that Congress never intended for schools to separate bathrooms and locker rooms on the basis of biological sex when it passed Title IX in 1972, despite the law expressly allowing schools to maintain separate living facilities on the basis of biological sex. That set off a fun back and forth between the attorney and two of the judges, which is worth watching.

On the other side of the case, Erin Hawley, an Alliance Defending Freedom attorney who defended the law, clearly explained why Senate Bill 1100 is necessary to protect the privacy and safety interests of students.

Idaho Family Policy Center got a brief mention during oral arguments. Judge Kim Wardlaw tried quoting from the IFPC mission statement, which refers to “promoting God-honoring public policy” and “biblical truths in sexuality and gender,” as evidence that Senate Bill 1100 was motivated by discriminatory animus toward gender-confused individuals.

Hawley deftly dismissed Judge Wardlaw’s attacks, reminding the judges that bathrooms and locker rooms have always been separated on the basis of biological sex.

Please be in prayer that God gives wisdom and clarity to the Ninth Circuit panel as they decide this important case in the coming weeks!

2. New petition asking Costco to NOT begin selling the abortion pill 💊

Did you know that Costco may start selling chemical abortion pills?

Our friends at Inspire Investing – one of the leaders in the biblically responsible investing movement – are mobilizing Christians to tell Costco executives to change course!

Are you a Costco member or investor? Sign Inspire’s petition to make clear that you oppose selling chemical abortion pills that destroy preborn babies and risk the lives of desperate mothers.

Thanks to the Heartbeat and Trigger laws that ban most abortions within Idaho borders, Costco cannot dispense chemical abortion pills at their Idaho locations.

Even still, we don’t want Costco membership dues being used to help make chemical abortion pills available at their locations in other states. Sign the petition to let Costco know where you stand!

3. Don’t forget to vote 🗳️

Only six days remain until the Idaho Primary Election Day!

One of the most effective ways for Christians to exert a godly influence in their communities is through exercising their biblical responsibility to vote.

Download and read our free Biblical Citizenship Guide to Voting so you can be prepared to vote for candidates who will govern according to God’s principles!

Election day is TUESDAY, MAY 21, which also serves as the return deadline for absentee ballots. This means that your absentee ballot must be received by May 21, not mailed on May 21.
