The Christian Statesman of the Year award was created by Idaho Family Policy Center to honor these public servants, highlight their contributions to our state, and encourage others to follow in their example of biblically informed leadership. This award is presented to recipients at Idaho Family Policy Center’s “Standing With Conviction” annual galas.
In his epistle to the Romans, the Apostle Paul teaches that civil government was created by God to promote His justice on earth through restraining evil and promoting good (Romans 13:1-7). Paul even explains that public officials are God’s ministers of justice, called to promote the common good and punish evildoers (Romans 13:4).
Not only are civil leaders called to publicly acknowledge God in their official activities (Psalm 2:10-12), but they will also give an account to God for how they promoted biblical justice and protected freedom (Psalm 82). Scripture also tells us that righteous rulers lead the people into political happiness, but wicked rulers make the people miserable (Proverbs 29:2).
We’re blessed to work with many godly leaders in Idaho—men and women who understand their responsibility to govern in the fear of God and according to biblical principles (Exodus 18:21).
