Idaho voters overwhelmingly support family values

We’re excited to release the final results of our annual Idaho Family Policy Poll!

This scientific public opinion poll – commissioned by Idaho Family Policy Center – utilized a large, representative sample of likely Idaho voters. Respondents were contacted by both landline and mobile phone using interactive voice response (IVR) technology.

1. Idahoans believe the Ten Commandments should once again be displayed in public buildings and classrooms

The U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Kennedy v. Bremerton (2022) reopened the door for greater religious expression in government settings, including public schools.

Since then, several states have taken steps to restore the presence of God, the Bible, and prayer in government activities. Louisiana, for instance, affirmed our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage by requiring public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.

Although the Louisiana law is currently on hold due to a questionable ruling by an activist federal judge, public support for such measures remains strong. In fact, more than two-thirds (64%) of likely Idaho voters would support a similar policy in the Gem State.

2. Idahoans believe that state prisons should not allow biologically male inmates to use female intimate facilities

Last week, President Trump declared that as part of his policy recognizing male and female as the only two genders, he will direct federal agencies to ensure biological males aren’t housed with women in federal prisons and correctional facilities.

That said, Idaho still houses biological males in women’s prisons, meaning that biological males must use the restroom, showers, and locker rooms alongside biological females. And according to our polling, more than 74% of likely Idaho voters want to see legislative action on this issue.

3. Idahoans believe that public universities should enact free speech policies to allow constitutionally protected expressive activities

Most Americans view public colleges and universities as champions of free speech. Yet in 2014, Boise State University made national headlines for restricting student expression to designated “free speech zones.”

Legal action from an unexpected coalition—including the conservative Alliance Defending Freedom, the libertarian Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), and the progressive ACLU of Idaho—ultimately led BSU to revise its policies. Still, many students, both at BSU and other state colleges and universities, report feeling unwelcome to freely express their views on campus.

Our polling reveals that nearly nine in ten (89%) of likely Idaho voters believe public colleges and universities should adopt and publish clear free speech policies that protect constitutionally guaranteed expression—including peaceful assembly, protests, guest speakers, literature distribution, and petition circulation.

4. Idahoans believe that DEI programs have no place in state government and public education

Americans are increasingly fed up with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs—prompting companies like Starbucks, Walmart, and Boeing to recognize the shifting tide and begin retreating from their divisive racial policies

That said, DEI remains rampant in Idaho state government, despite public opposition. In fact, our polling shows that 71% of likely Idaho voters are ready for these programs to be eradicated from our government entities once and for all.

5. Idahoans support our Children’s School and Library Protection Act

Following years of outcry from local parents and community groups, the Idaho Legislature finally adopted the “Children’s School and Library Protection Act” last year.

Our new law – which was researched and drafted by Idaho Family Policy Center – simply requires libraries to take reasonable steps to ensure that innocent children don’t get their hands on smut. But that didn’t stop the political left from launching a vicious media attack to undermine public support.

Despite this leftist backlash, our polling shows that our Children’s School and Library Protection Act enjoys support from a supermajority of likely Idaho voters (71%).

These poll results make one thing crystal clear: Idaho supports family and biblical values.

Idaho Family Policy Center is the only conservative Christian think tank doing robust policy analysis and public opinion polling in the Gem State.

Most of our supporters are shocked to learn that our financial support comes exclusively from local Christians and churches who share our vision for building an Idaho where God is honored. Unlike most other state organizations, we don’t receive out-of-state funding from our national partners.

Would you consider supporting the mission of Idaho Family Policy Center through a generous financial gift?

Your tax-deductible donation will increase our effectiveness in the coming year as we champion biblical values held by conservative Christians like you.
