Newly released poll results show overwhelming support for our 2026 legislative agenda.
We’ve been hard at work for the last nine months engaging in policy research and analysis—preparing for what we believe is a historic opportunity to advance God-honoring public policy in the state legislative session that begins today.
That’s why we’re proud to announce the results of our fourth annual Idaho Family Policy Poll. This scientific public opinion poll was commissioned by Idaho Family Policy Center and was conducted with a large, demographically representative sample of likely Idaho voters.
Unsurprisingly, the results reveal that Idahoans support the key priorities of our strategic conservative agenda to protect family, faith, and freedom in the Gem State:
1. Protect the Privacy and Safety of Women in Public Restrooms
Two years ago, Idaho Family Policy Center partnered with Sen. Ben Adams (R-Nampa) and Rep. Ted Hill (R-Meridian) to champion legislation protecting girls in school bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers.
And last year, we supported legislation from Rep. Barbara Ehardt (R-Idaho Falls) to extend those protections to state correctional facilities, domestic violence shelters, and public colleges and universities.
Both of these laws have withstood legal challenges in the federal courts. Now it’s time to build on these successes by adopting legislation that prevents biological males from accessing any public restroom and changing area designated for women. Because at the end of the day, our wives and daughters deserve safety and privacy in every public restroom and locker room—full stop.
2. Stop Drag Shows in Public Places Where Children Are Present
It’s illegal for children to patronize strip clubs, and we don’t allow them to hang around adult movie stores. So why do we allow sexualized drag exhibitions in places like public parks and community libraries?
Our legislation would create civil liability for organizers and performers who participate in sexual exhibitions when children are in the audience. This year will be our third time introducing this legislation—and we’re committed to getting it across the finish line
3. Protect Religious Freedom in Idaho Antidiscrimination Law
We’ve all heard of Jack Phillips, a Colorado baker who was prosecuted for refusing to design celebratory cakes for a same-sex wedding ceremony and a gender transition party.
But Jack’s story isn’t unique. Because of local antidiscrimination ordinances across the nation, thousands of other small businesses have been forced to choose between abandoning their convictions or forfeiting their livelihoods.
This is true even in Idaho, where nearly two dozen local governments threaten to fine or imprison small business owners who decline to participate in LGBT activities because of their sincerely held religious beliefs.
Our legislation would preempt excessively burdensome local antidiscrimination ordinances, protecting the sincerely held religious beliefs of every Idahoan.
4. Read the Bible in Schools Without Teacher Comment or Interpretation
For nearly a century, Idaho children heard the Bible read by their teachers at the start of every school day. This was done without instruction or comment from teachers—and any questions from students were referred to their parents.
But in 1964, school-sponsored Bible reading and prayer were removed from Idaho public schools. Since then, we’ve all witnessed the devastating impact of removing God from the classroom.
Our children and communities are starved for the biblical principles that once made our society the greatest in the world. That is why it’s critical – now more than ever – that the Idaho Legislature takes this historic opportunity to bring the Bible back into the classroom.
5. Support Idaho Families by Restoring the Child Tax Credit
For years, Idaho offered families a nonrefundable child tax credit, allowing parents to reduce their state income tax liability for each of their dependent children.
But last year, Idaho legislators allowed the child tax credit to expire, meaning that most families will see their state income tax burden increase during the 2026 tax year.
Our legislation would restore the child tax credit, ensuring that parents can continue financially supporting their growing families. It would also allow families to claim their preborn children as dependents—an important step toward recognizing the personhood of preborn children consistently throughout Idaho law.
