Every now and then, you encounter a public figure whose message resonates so deeply that you think, “Yes! This guy just captured truths that I’ve sensed all along but could never express myself.”
For me, one of those people is bestselling author Eric Metaxas. I’ve gotten to know Eric somewhat over the last few years through several events that we’ve done together, and I’ve always been struck by his ability to articulate with clarity and conviction the biblical mandate to engage culture.
Last week we brought Eric to Idaho Falls for two events. The first was a private IFPC Pastor’s Network luncheon, where Eric encouraged more than 50 church leaders and their spouses to faithfully stand for biblical truth in the culture war. The second was a public IFPC Family Forum Night, during which I had the privilege of interviewing Eric in front of nearly 200 attendees about the American founding and his work on Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Eric’s newest book—Revolution: The Birth of the Greatest Nation in the History of the World—released earlier this month, is the bestselling book in America right now. During our discussion, he shared that through doing research for the book, he became convinced that the War for Independence is really a story of God’s providential hand in history.
After our nighttime event, I recorded a quick reel with Eric to plug his new book for social media. I asked him to share about the book—but he soon shifted the conversation to why he supports Idaho Family Policy Center.
“The guys at Idaho Family Policy Center—you guys are heroes,” Eric explained. “I don’t say this lightly, but you’re doing God’s work. You’re a huge resource to churches and anyone who lives in the state. I’m grateful for you, and I hope people will support you.”
