Idaho Legislature Declares Statewide Day of Fasting and Prayer

Our nation and our state have endured many challenges throughout our history. But if you’re anything like me, you’re probably worried about the storm clouds on the horizon:

  • Moral decay, crime, and price inflation continue to burden American families and our communities.
  • Anti-ICE protests across the nation have turned deadly, and many Idahoans were shocked to hear of the attempted terrorist attack on DHS offices in my hometown of Meridian.
  • The response of progressives to the murder of Charlie Kirk, politically motivated criminal prosecutions of President Donald Trump and others, and the rise of antisemitism on both sides of the political aisle reveal divisions that threaten to tear our country apart.
  • Low snowpack in our mountains could portend water shortages later this year, threatening to devastate Idaho’s agricultural industries.

When we’ve faced tough times like these in the past, our federal and state leaders have called for days of fasting and prayer—a practice so common in early America that one historian estimates more than 1,400 prayer proclamations were issued by state governments before 1815.

Following this example, Idaho legislators adopted House Concurrent Resolution 28, declaring this Sunday, March 1, 2026, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer. You can read the resolution below.

One of our policy analysts, Grace Howat, testified for HCR 28 in the Senate State Affairs committee hearing earlier this week. You can watch her testimony here:

Will you join me and thousands of fellow Idahoans in seeking God’s blessings together, humbly asking for His protection and favor over our state and nation? Together we can claim the promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14:

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Let’s fast and pray this Sunday—appealing to God and acknowledging our dependence upon Him.
