LEGISLATIVE ROUNDUP: Supreme Court hears case against Idaho, Florida pushes back on Satanic Temple

LEGISLATIVE ROUNDUP: Supreme Court hears case against Idaho, Florida pushes back on Satanic Temple

1. Supreme Court hears oral arguments on Idaho’s Defense of Life Act

On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Idaho Defense of Life Act, also known as the Trigger law.

Late last year, we filed a joint amicus brief supporting the law. In it, we argue that:

It is highly doubtful that [EMTALA], directed as it was at providing emergency care for patients unable to afford treatment and enacted by a bipartisan group of senators and representatives, signed by President Reagan, and with language designed to protect the interests of unborn children, was really a Trojan horse for mandatory abortion.

Our very own Blaine Conzatti, President of Idaho Family Policy Center, did a powerful interview with Kevin Miller on KIDO radio. They broke down the details of the case, why the Biden Administration targeted Idaho, and what the Supreme Court decision could mean for the pro-life movement as a whole.

Here’s the reality: Idaho pro-life laws are constitutionally and legally sound. Let’s be praying the Supreme Court Justices come to the same conclusion!

2. DeSantis bars satanists from Florida school chaplaincy program

Florida is not afraid to say “hell no” to Satanists who think they have a chance at becoming a school chaplain.

This week, Governor DeSantis signed a bill into law that would allow chaplains to offer counseling at public and charter schools – and Satanists are not invited to participate.

In a press conference, Gov. DeSantis said:

Now some have said if you do a school chaplain program that somehow you’re going to have Satanists running around in all our schools….We’re not playing those games in Florida. That is not a religion. That is not qualifying to be able to participate in this. We’re going to be using common sense when it comes to this, so you don’t have to worry about that.

While the Satanic Temple claims that it doesn’t worship Satan, their religious philosophy is permeated with radical self-exaltation and moral relativism, ideas usually associated with traditional Satanic thought.

Its adherents — who, by the way, rename themselves after demons and participate in rituals filled with overtly Satanic imagery — openly mock Christianity as an attack on the religious foundations of the American government and culture.

Thankfully, federal courts have already affirmed that parody religions lacking sincerely held religious beliefs are not entitled to religious protections under the First Amendment.
