“First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2
Just over a week ago, we witnessed a disturbing violent attack on two Minnesota state legislators and their spouses. Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their home, while Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were critically injured.
As you can imagine, we are shocked and saddened by this tragedy, and we want to respond to it in a way that honors God’s Word and reflects His heart for governing leaders.
As a Christian conservative public policy ministry, we care deeply about legislation, but we also genuinely care about legislators—not just their public service but also their personal safety.
After all, while our main focus at IFPC is on culture and politics, we can never forget the spiritual implications. This means we view our work as a ministry, mobilizing a team of cultural warriors to promote BOTH policy AND prayer.
This is why we have marshaled a coalition of committed Christians who believe in the power of prayer to call upon in times like these to petition God about issues and events that impact our lives.
With that in mind, we are asking you, as a fellow prayer warrior, to pray along with us for God’s provision and protection for the laws of our land AND for the lives of our legislators.
Please join with us in praying the following intercession for our lawmakers:
Father in heaven, as biblical citizens who care about our government officials, we ask for your blessing and for your protection upon our leaders. Please help them to be godly people and to make good decisions. Please also protect them from danger and keep them from harm. May You be glorified and Your will be done both in the laws of our land and in the lives of our leaders. Amen.
PRAYER REQUESTS
Pray for the families and communities impacted by this tragedy—that they will come together in unity and turn to God during this time of crisis.
Pray for biblical justice to be carried out against the gunman—that God’s love and justice would be on public display throughout the judicial process.
Pray for the salvation of the shooter and those affected—that he and those traumatized by this tragedy would look to Jesus for healing.
ACTION ITEMS
- Please partner with us financially to help us continue the mission of advancing the lordship of Christ in the public square by partnering with the local church to equip and mobilize God’s people.
- Please share this email with others and invite them to join the IFPC Prayer Coalition so we can mobilize more Christian citizens to pray with us for our faith, our family, and our freedom.
One Response
Please pray that my daughters, Addison, Ella and Samantha would treasure God above all else. In a world that fights for their affections, help them to count all things as loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ (Phil. 3:8). Shape their view of sex according to God‘s Word—seeing it as a sacred gift in marriage for joy and His glory. Guard their hearts with spiritual clarity—quick to confess, rooted in grace, and trusting His forgiveness. May they honor others, resist peer pressure, and stand strong in faith. Let these same truths be alive and growing in me as their mother. Thank you for standing with me in prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
